Graphic Leadership: The Role Of Luck

It is this author’s opinion that too many people use the word “luck” as an attempt to avoid personal responsibility. “I’ve never been lucky.” “He’s always lucky.” sometimes are phrases they might toss around.

Then there are those who would say “There’s no such thing as ‘luck’.” Surely they aren’t saying that everyone is born with the same capacities and opportunities through no fault of their own?

This poster captures a perspective that a mature leader eventually embraces. “‘Luck’ begins and ends with the cards each person is dealt. After that, you make your own ‘luck’ by how you play those cards.”

This understanding of “luck” permits a leader to treat followers with an understanding based on the person’s background without allowing the person to use their background as a cop-out for lack of future growth and development.

Allowing a follower to use “luck” as a personal responsibility avoidance technique is certainly doing the follower no favor.
