Meeting Theme: Wizard Wars 2.0

Having learned lessons from previous Wizard War themed evenings, we sought to implement them into this 2.0 version of the evening.

Before the event … four of our more experienced members were selected as Team Leaders. They not only would lead the competing teams on that evening but would also help select the 5-7 items that would go into the prop sacks (although they would not know which sack their team would randomly receive).

At the beginning of the competition, the team leaders stood and were introduced. From among the attendees there was a show of hands from those who wished to participate in the competition.

The host/MC of the evening then created the 5-7 member teams with an eye towards balancing the teams with a diversity of knowledge and experience. Each team then went over to the prop table and selected one of the closed sacks – containing the props they would ultimately use.

While the teams retired for a twenty minute routine planning and rehearsal session, those who remained were taught a magic trick (in our case “The Houdini Rubber Band” available at https://www.lybrary.com/houdini-rubber-band-p-922807.html

When the teams are called back in, the competition begins. After two teams presented their 3-5 minute routines, our evening raffle was conducted.

Upon the completion of the competition, voting takes place through a polling on our Facebook page with each person voting on their phone for the team of their choice.

At the completion of the voting, the members of the winning team come to the front to receive their trophies (in this case little plastic Oscar trophies), and the event adjourns for additional magic jamming at a local pub.
