Throughout the year, we encourage members to donate unused magic tricks and DVD’s to our club’s “magic closet” (which is actually a locked closet on the second floor of The Abbott House.
In early December we typically enter the closet armed with tissue paper and gift bags purchased at the Dollar Store on a mission to find gifts for the gift exchange at our December’s Monday Night Magic.
The event in previous years has followed the pattern described on the event poster.
However, in 2025, our membership nearly doubled, and it was determined to make sure that spouses (who often attend this annual event) also leave with a gift.
Consequently in 2025, it was decided to combine the gift exchange with BINGO and a table laden with unwrapped gifts some of which were magic-related and some not (i.e. box of candy canes, holiday ornament, etc.).
The first person to get a bingo goes to the prize table and selects his/her prize first. There is no traditional switching/trading of prizes in this version. If this first winner gets another bingo, he/she selects another person who hasn’t had a bingo to go up to the table.
If multiple people get a bingo at the same time, they all go up to the table together to select a prize.
Periodically (including at the very beginning) we include our Zoom participants by having them number off and then the in-person host rolls a die/dice to determine which of our Zoomers gets to select a prize from the table.
This annual tradition has proven over the years to be a club favorite.
