Every club has members who contribute of their time and energy more than they consume, and also there are those who consume more than they contribute.
Those members who contribute more than they consume know explicitly they are part of our club’s core – receiving several “core only” emails (usually with club news ahead of its release to the general membership) and a couple “core only” lecture events each year.
As members’ priorities shift in response to changing life circumstances, the size of the core does increase and decrease in size each year.
Personally as a leader, I have a goal of keeping the core size at 40% or higher. It’s a constant focus for me to increase the size of the core by continuing to provide more and more opportunities where members can actively contribute time and/or money as they might choose.
