Meeting Activity: A-Z Posters

Do your members know the jargon that’s unique to magic? Are you sure?

Here’s an activity that will get the job done (and another idea at the bottom of this post).

The group is divided into equal teams (be sure you have at least one knowledgeable person in each group). If you’re worried about that, you could appoint team leaders ahead of your meeting.

Each team comes and gets a piece of that 3M sticky poster paper from the front of the room and posts it on one of the walls of the room. Each team also selects their favorite smelling marker from a box of those scented markers (just no yellow or light pink as they are a bear to read).

They title their poster MAGIC JARGON.

Down the left hand edge of the poster paper they list the 26 letters of the alphabet one on top of the other and then are in a race with the other team to come up with a word that is used consistently in magic communication that is not commonly used in everyday conversation.

The only rule is that they can’t list it if they can’t define it.

Going over the winning team’s list and then seeing from time to time what other teams put for any of the letters provides much energy and education too.

How about doing the same idea using Richard Webster’s idea for a cold reading memory aid with a letter of the alphabet for each positive adjective you might use in a cold reading?

Using the same process above you could help your members add a little something extra to their next card trick.

Who knows? There might be other topics that could be covered in this same manner.
