Meeting Activity: Living Statues

In drama it’s called a tableau where people are positioned in such a manner that a story could be told from their still positioning and expressions.

One application to a magic meeting might be that of the group creating a list of magicians’ most consistent presentational mistakes with one mistake printed on each of multiple index cards (possibly using an activity like our Index Card Exchange).

Then each team draws one or two of the top ten index cards – creating a tableau in the front of the room with other table teams deciding among themselves and then sharing which magician’s mistake they believe the group was trying to depict.

This would certainly raise to a conscious level the mistakes for members to avoid in their magic routines.

We have on our upcoming meeting calendar the coupling of this activity with creating greater familiarity with our Presentational Feedback Form by having each table draw a number corresponding to one or two of the components addressed on the feedback form with others attempting to guess which one the tableau represents. This will cause all the participants to read through the form multiple times – achieving our goal of internalizing the components of the form.
