Andrew Carnegie asked a consultant for his best piece of advice on time management. The consultant told Mr. Carnegie to make a to do list THE NIGHT BEFORE for the next day.
The words in capital letters were very important. If you waited until the morning of, there’s a very good chance that “urgent” requests from others might derail you from the important items on your list.
Then the consultant told Mr. Carnegie that again the night before he should prioritize the items on his to do list from most important to least. Chances are he would not accomplish everything on his list. However, at least he would be assured that it was the lesser important tasks left undone.
“How much do I owe you?” Andrew Carnegie asked the consultant. “Just try my plan and send me what you think it’s worth,” the consultant replied.
Carnegie sent the consultant $10,000 (which is equivalent to $285,000 in 2024).
