The first generation of a magic club tends to understand the “why” behind the various programs and procedures in use (since in most cases those in leadership during that first generation put the programs or processes in place).
However, it’s very easy for the “why” to get separated from the action as others assume leadership of the club. Then we find it’s very easy once the “why” behind an activity gets separated from the activity itself for that activity or process to cease to exist.
When the question is asked “Why do we do it that way?” and no one can answer, the wisdom of the process might get lost and change might occur just for the sake of change alone.
In an attempt to keep the “why” linked to the actions, we created a Why Deck – containing 40+ cards using Avery business cards #5371. The goal is that each leader of our club can articulate the reason behind the question on each card.
