Meeting Activity: Envelope Exchange

A different question pertaining to magic is hand printed on as many envelopes as you have table teams.

Some sample questions might be:

  • What are characteristics of a good magic routine to open a magic show? Give some examples.
  • List some characteristics of a good magic routine to close a magic show? Give some examples.
  • What are some characteristics of someone who makes a good volunteer for a magic trick?
  • What are some of the most effective ways to recover when you mess up one of your tricks?
  • What are some of the best strategies for managing someone in a group who’s adversarial towards your magic?

You get the idea.

On the table are also some blank index cards.

The envelopes are distributed one per table with each table getting a different question.

The table works on completing bullet point suggestions on an index card in response to the envelope’s question and inserting the index card in the envelope (not sealed) and exchanging with an envelope from another table.

No table is allowed to read the index card(s) in their envelope until the very end of the activity.

Eventually every table team will have an index card in each envelope.

The table team holding the envelope at the end then reads the index cards to their table – deciding on the best three or four ideas with the table team leader/spokesperson presenting those best ideas to the rest of the room.

This fun activity taps into your club members’ collective experience and knowledge in a manner that makes it equally easy for both introverts and extroverts to participate.
