Meeting Activity: Finger Wiggle Meeting Opener

Although we know the opening moments of a magician’s performance are crucial to the success of his/her show, we have not always applied the same thoughtful planning to the opening moments of our magic club meetings.

Here’s an activity you might try to bring involvement and energy the first thirty seconds of your next meeting.

Ask everyone at the meeting to put one of their hands spread open with fingertips resting on the table or their leg (like a spider).

Then have them bend their middle finger underneath their hand – resting the middle knuckle of that finger on the table.

Now you’re about to ask them a series of questions to which they’ll respond by wiggling one of their fingers:

1. “Wiggle your index finger if you wish we were giving away $1000 in merchandise from Vanishing, Inc. as part of this meeting.”

2. “Wiggle your little finger if you wish we had brought David Copperfield in as a guest lecturer with rare samples from his vast magic collection.”

3. “Wiggle your ring finger if you can think of any place you’d rather be than right here right now.“

Of course you’ll look around the room and find no ring fingers wiggling to which you respond something like “So glad to see that! Let’s get going. Should be fun!” as you get the meeting started.

Here’s another meeting opener you might consider.
