After giving each person a copy of The Destination Selector along with a pen, here’s how we’ve used it as a club meeting opener.
“We understand there are many places you could be tonight besides this magic club meeting. For instance in the upper left hand corner square of this matrix, write the word ‘Hawaii.’ Let’s let our imaginations run wild!
In the lower left hand corner, print the words ‘Stay at home.’ After all, you could have done that.
And I suppose we should put the words ‘This Meeting’ on the grid somewhere. Let’s put it in the gray square at the far right end of the middle row.
Now that you have the general idea, fill out the other squares with places you could dream about being tonight. Both reasonable and ridiculous.
Look at another member’s sheet for ideas if you start running low on inspiration.
Now here’s how it works.
1. Everyone put an index finger on a gray square and on the count of three call out the destination you wrote in that gray square. 1 … 2 … 3! Too much disagreement. That’s for sure.
2. Now from that original gray square, move your finger left or right to the nearest white square – calling out what you printed in that box on the count of three. 1 … 2 … 3! Still not enough consensus.
3. Let’s try this. From that white square, move your finger up or down to the nearest gray square. You know the drill. 1 … 2 … 3!
4. This is getting discouraging. From that gray square, move your finger diagonally to the nearest white square. 1 … 2 … 3!
5. If we can’t achieve unanimous agreement on this one, we’ll just give up! From the white square, move your finger left or right to the nearest gray square. 1 … 2 … 3!
(At this point, if directions were followed, everyone will shout out the words “THIS MEETING.”)
Great! I knew we could come to agreement.
Let’s get this meeting started!”
