Meeting Activity: Listening Assignments

In order to promote active involvement when we host lectures, we will not only send the lecturer questions that members hope the lecturer will address, but also we will ask the lecturer for three or four key points that they want the participants to remember.

We will convert the desired point into a listening assignment. By way of example if the lecturer wants them to remember the importance of audience participation in order to ensure the engagement of your audience, we will convert that into a question (i.e. What is one key component (lecturer’s name) encouraged us to include in our performances to ensure audience engagement?).

We would then distribute a listening assignment to each of our Table Teams prior to the lecture beginning.

We would then hear each table team’s answer after the lecture prior to opening the lecturer’s dealer table.

We have not only found this helpful to encourage active listening among our members, but we also believe it helps sharpen the focus of the lecturer on his/her content too.
