This activity generates its energy from problem solving as a component of a monthly meeting.
Each table team writes on a piece of paper a legible paragraph of three or four sentences describing a real-world problematic scenario that a magician might encounter (or better yet has encountered) (i.e. A contrary audience member, a trick that messes up, late start for your show while people are still eating). You get the idea.
Then they exchange it with another table. On the back of that scenario, the new table team draws a two-column chart.
The left-hand column is headed by the word PREVENTIVE with the right hand column headed by the word CORRECTIVE.
The challenge is to now generate at least three preventive strategies that might have prevented the situation from ever arising and three strategies for managing it if/when it does arise.
After completing their assignment, the original team gets their paper back – reading to and discussing with themselves the suggestions given to them by another table team and having their table team leader then share with the whole group both the original problematic scenario and adding strategies suggested by the other table team as well as those that might have occurred to his/her table team during their own discussion.
At this point other tables might be ready to jump in and contribute to the discussion – helping your club members not only anticipate problematic situations but also leave with solutions to manage those situations.
