The Tyranny Of The Urgent is a small booklet I read in college. Then in reading Stephen Covey’s The 7 Habits Of Highly Effective People, I’m reminded of this theme again.
Spending time visiting with my spouse is seldom urgent but always important; listening to my children tell me about their day can always be done tomorrow; as well as dozens of other important tasks.
On the other hand, urgent tasks can feel like important tasks unless the leader has their importance radar finely tuned. The wise leader constantly draws distinct differentiation between those tasks which are urgent from those which are truly important.
