In this poster you’ll see a boat that has beached itself – driving full-speed ahead out of the lake and up on the sand.
Notice the name of the lake. The lake represents the leaders finite spiritual, emotional, financial, physical, and mental resources.
Notice the name of the boat. The boat represents the leader’s collection of “shoulds” as in “I should do this” or “I should do that.” Oftentimes it is our own internal shoulds that propel us to drive our boats way beyond the scope of our resources. A mature leader knows where the edges of his/her lake is and attempts to keep their boat far enough from shore to not bury their engine in the sand. S/he seeks to keep a healthy margin between where s/he’s driving their boat and the edge of their resources – creating a healthy margin in their life.
That having been said . . . the leader also encourages his/her followers to not settle for merely driving their boats in tiny circles in the middle of their lakes either – staying too far from shore to learn the lessons about life and themselves that will only make them stronger individuals.
Where is your boat currently in the light of the edges of your resources? What changes do you wish to make?
