Thousands and thousands of thoughts pass through anyone’s mind in the course of a single day. Robbing those thoughts of an unthinking and yet very potent power is the goal of this poster.
When for example a thought proceeds along the lines of “I bet there have been discussions among senior management about my lack of value to the company. In fact, I’m thinking that in the light of the lay-offs, I’m probably next in line”; that thought no doubt comes with a substantial amount of emotion behind it. That emotion (in this case fear) can cause the thought to feel like a fact.
If the leader doesn’t neutralize the thought with the understanding depicted in this poster, that potentially erroneous thought might propel the leader to some unwise behaviors/reactions. A leader recognizes that every thought whether from himself or one of his followers is only just that . . . a thought. Keeping that perspective brings greater stability to his/her leadership.
