A leader understands that it is not who you know or what you possess or even what you have done that will determine your ultimate happiness.
Rather it is who you become that has the power to make you happy or sad.
Who you become has the power to determine whether or not there will be anybody there for you in life to help you up when you fall down. Who you become has the power to bring you a deep sense of satisfaction when you look in the mirror. Who you become will to a large extent determine whether you have any family or friends to care about you in your old age or be around you as you exit this life.
A mature leader takes the long look and invests in who s/he is becoming – understanding that all other measures of success place a distant second in determining ultimate happiness.
