Leaders understand the benefits that accrue to someone who is working for the greater good. As opposed to someone who is self-focused, the person working for a cause beyond their own needs has a greater stability in their life.
They aren’t as likely to vacillate with the erratic shifts of their own whims and desires as that is not their primary focus. They are focused on a greater cause (i.e. their children’s or spouse’s well-being, a volunteer opportunity, or philanthropic cause). As the poster indicates, they look above the self-focus of the mirror to the crowd beyond the mirror and seek to help meet the needs of others.
