Although the term Emotional Expensiveness might be new, no leader has any problem relating to its meaning. There are consistently some followers (or employees) who could be termed High Maintenance or Emotionally Expensive.
The leader knows that first s/he attempts to help that follower become less needy and more self-sufficient. The posters in this blog entitled Gratitude, Never Enough, Complainers, and The Drama Triangle address some possible strategies.
However, when those strategies don’t work, the leader knows that s/he must let loose of the follower as s/he continues to demand an inordinate amount of the leader’s energy. See the poster Energy Allotment for more on this subject.
