Politically the phrase kick the can down the road is often used when lawmakers pass a law that doesn’t take effect for years. They can look like they addressed the situation without personally needing to deal with the fallout from its implementation.

On the other hand, seasoned leaders have mastered any tendencies s/he might have regarding procrastination.

S/he knows that procrastination occurs due to one or more of the following false beliefs:

• Everything must be done perfectly in order to be acceptable;
• It’s easier to avoid life’s responsibilities than undertake more rewarding forms of self discipline;
• A person should wait until s/he feels confident before proceeding with a task.

A leader has prepared refutations for each of the above beliefs.

As anyone who has procrastinated knows, procrastination more times than not complicates the task as the postponed situation spins-off other situations like itself.

Lack of procrastination is one earmark of a leader people eagerly follow.
