Graphic Leadership: Pacing

It’s not hard for a leader to out-pace his/her followers.

Many times s/he cares about achieving the goal more than the followers. Consequently, s/he has more ego investment in attaining the goal and spends more time thinking about the best path to the goal.

Due to these factors, the leader might find himself/herself out in front of the followers – calling back to the followers to “Hurry! Catch up!”

If the leader has remarkable energy, it is not at all unusual for the followers to become discouraged and just “let the leader do it” – essentially becoming spectators in watching the leader perform.

A wise leader gives his/her followers a role in setting the pace – moving with the team towards the realization of a goal.
