When a wise leader invests time and energy into his/her followers, s/he distinguishes between “investment” and “attachment.” S/he invests in the follower but does not become attached to the outcome. Choosing to make an investment is under the control of the leader. The results of that investment is not under the control of the leader. Consequently, the leader focuses on the investment s/he chooses to make – working hard to not become attached to the outcome.
