A “hub leader” is someone whose style always has him/her in the middle of the action. Their follower/spokes all must pass through the leader’s authority before connecting to the other spokes.
The leader in this scenario quickly becomes a constriction to the growth of the organization. Frustration among the followers soon follows. Instead a wise leader uses the outside rim of the wheel – decentralizing authority and facilitating the connection of the followers with each other – leveraging their strengths through cooperation and collaboration.
Might you be a “hub leader?” If so how might you encourage your followers to connect directly with each other? See the poster Effective Delegation for more on this subject.
