A piece of wisdom that has stood the test of time is the phrase “The end doesn’t justify the means.”When a person or company only focuses on results and not the means of getting to the results, it’s easy to drift into an unprincipled culture – losing its internal compass. There are many examples of recent companies who were viewed in the industry as a striking example of high profitability only to later be exposed as a company cheating to make that profit. It was a short run with an abysmal end. The wise leader knows that the means of getting to the goal is as important as reaching the goal. His/her character demands it.
