Graphic Leadership: About You

A leader can become toxically responsible or dysfunctionally conscientious.

When that happens s/he begins to take responsibility for everything that happens both within his/her sphere of control and for those things over which they have no control (i.e. market conditions, behaviors/decisions of others, acts of God, etc.).

Thus begins a quagmire of self condemnation and blaming as s/he takes a crisis personally – compromising the leader’s effectiveness to manage the situation.

A strong leader has a deep conviction around what s/he controls and what s/he doesn’t. S/he knows it’s not all about him/her.

See the poster What do I control? for more help on this topic.
