I’m not speaking about hoarding here although that also is a worthy theme for a leader to consider (see the Eliminate and Concentrate poster for more on this subject).
Instead I’m speaking of a very unusual characteristic of the rodent known as a pack rat. As they run out of their nest to grab something and haul it back to their nest, they will drop what they initially went after and grab a different item particularly if that second item is shiny. They seldom make it back to the nest with the item they initially pursued.
Here is a where a leader knows that the mental discipline of remaining focused on the goal is essential to their success. If s/he gets distracted by the first shiny object s/he sees, s/he may never attain the success s/he has defined for himself/herself.
Therein oftentimes lies the problem. If the individual has not defined what “success” is for himself/herself, there is little chance of attaining it. For help in this area, please consider The Tombstone Test poster and the Delayed Gratification poster.
