Here’s where a look back at a previous poster entitled Identity vs. Role would be completely appropriate.
In another context someone has said, “Not having much money is a fact that many people deal with. However, “being poor” is a state of mind.
If you have expectations for yourself, you will fail to meet some of those expectations. If you don’t have any expectations for yourself or your expectations are so low that you can consistently meet them with no effort, you have another set of problems not addressed in the context of this posting. However, most people do have expectations for themselves and sometimes meet them and sometimes don’t (see the Room Of Reality poster for more on this subject).
When a person takes the phrase “I made a mistake” over to “I am a mistake,” they have lost the line between what they do and who they are. They are allowing themselves to be defined by what they do rather than by who they are.
Leaders understand that this poster could just as easily be written “Failing makes you human” and have learned to accept the reality of that truth.
