A leader already has a certain amount of earned power that has to be managed. Consequently, it is essential that s/he considers how s/he shares his/her opinion. It must always be stated as merely one person’s opinion to receive maximum receptivity on the part of the followers.
“In my opinion . . . ” or “One way of looking at this might be . . . ” are two phrases with which a leader could introduce their opinion.
“We need to . . . ” or “This is the way to do this . . . ” are two phrases that will soon have the leader wondering why their followers aren’t more invested in his/her ideas. Ultimately, the leader will regret introducing a plan without presenting it in the context of an opinion.
