Whether you are paid by the hour or not, the wise leader knows what his/her hourly wage is by taking the amount of money s/he makes and dividing that dollar amount by the number of hours s/he works.
This “hourly wage” then becomes a guide for removing “clutter” from both their job and other portions of their lives.
As a rule of thumb, if someone else will do the job at less than the leader’s own hourly wage, then that person should be hired to do the job (i.e. lawn mowing, errand running, bookkeeping, etc.).
The one exception would be anything that brings the leader personal pleasure. Some leaders do enjoy mowing their own lawn.
However, therein also lies a dilemma. It is always what the leader likes to do that is the most difficult to delegate to another. The wise leader is aware of that temptation and guards himself/herself from falling prey to that tendency.
You might take few moments to again visit the posters entitled Effective Delegation and Time Management for more on this topic.
