A wise leader understands the wisdom of Howard Hawk’s (Founder of Tenaska) insight when he said, “We should never be surprised when someone acts in a way that corresponds with how we economically incentivize them to act.”
From time to time a great leader evaluates the way s/he incentivizes his/her employees. Many times within the moving parts of incentive packages one can find the seeds of undesirable behaviors. Also over the course of time as the desired behaviors change, the incentive packages may need to change as well.
