When we talked about the poster How To Give Credit, we talked about the fact that giving a personal quality in the midst of that praise was a very strong feature, but many times we don’t have a very good list at the tip of our tongue regarding those personal qualities.
This is a poster designed to give you a source for words that describe what you might really enjoy about somebody, but you don’t know how to put into words.
I encourage you to keep this list close by.
You might even want to take it and shrink it down to where it fits into your wallet. Here’s where we can make a difference. When we talk to people about what we appreciate about their personal qualities we go beyond that of their production. “Yeah that’s all they care about around here is me producing.” What do you like about them as a person? What do their actions show you about them as a person?
Get familiar with this vocabulary and you’ll find yourself much more powerful as a leader in affirming those you lead.
