Graphic Leadership: Conflict Reactions

poster-conflict

Before going to work on your own conflict reactions, it’s good to know exactly where you tend to automatically fall on this chart.

You’ll see two axies. The horizontal axis reflects how cooperative you are when conflict arises. The vertical axis is how assertive you are when conflict arises.

Before we go on and look at how we might best react to conflicts for maximum benefits, I would look at this and ask, “Where do you typically fall on the chart?”

Compromise or Collaborate is where we want to fall. What is it that keeps you from finding those two sweet spots when conflict arises in your world?

We’re going to take a look at how to overcome some of our natural tendencies as we proceed in this book. We’ve done that earlier, and I would encourage you to come back to this when we look at the skills and the abilities that a leader needs to have in negotiation.

Where do you most often come down on this poster when conflict arises? Only acknowledging your reactions to conflict will enable you to grow to where you want to be.

We can never fix what we don’t acknowledge.
