Everyone does not think like your mom and dad. My hope is that brings you some relief. I’m not sure that’s always our understanding as we begin in life. Very often, we project on others our own background, and then wonder why in the world they don’t make sense to us.
As we get to know people as individuals and we arrive at an understanding of where they’re literally coming from, their behavior starts to make more and more sense.
I like this poster from another standpoint too. Many times our fears are wrapped up, as we talked about in attachment theory, in the way our parents reacted or didn’t react to us. Understanding that not everyone thinks like your mom and dad frees you up.
Everyone is not uncomfortable with the feelings that made your mom and dad uncomfortable.
Everyone is not scared of the things that scared your mom and dad. Everyone is not as critical as your mom and dad might have been of you.
It sets us free to move in a world with ever increasing comfort zones. Everyone does not think like your mom and dad. My hope is that thought brings you comfort and freedom as a leader.
