Graphic Leadership: How A Mentor Thinks

poster-mentored

Every leader needs a mentor. But here’s a poster that talks about a key component to get from your mentor. When being mentored, don’t pay as much attention to what your mentor does. You probably won’t be able to execute what he or she does. Each of us have our own personalities with its strenths and weaknesses. Your mentor has his/her own set of gifts.

Instead, go after learning how they think. Make them show you their work. When they give you a piece of advice, ask them, “How did you get there?”; “What were the steps you took to get to that piece of advice for me?”

By putting your emphasis on how they think rather than what they do, you’ll gain more benefit from the mentoring relationship.
