Graphic Leadership: Passion

poster-passion

We see passion as an indispensable component of leadership. But what is passion? Why is it so powerful?

In the Charisma Poster, you will have seen the pyramid that you now see in this poster. We speak on many different levels–clichés, facts about others, facts about yourself, your thoughts and your feelings.  The deepest part of where we share from is when we share our thoughts and our feelings.

I can talk in clichés and not be vulnerable. I can even tell you facts about others and not be vulnerable. I can even tell you facts about myself and not be vulnerable. However, when I start sharing with you my thoughts and my feelings, I open myself up to your judgment and I become vulnerable.

That’s why when two people connect on their thoughts and their feelings, they have connected on the deepest level. Passion says, “I don’t care what you think about this. I believe strongly this needs to happen.”  Passion declares one’s thoughts and feelings unilaterally disregarding how others might feel about them.

Without any analysis, others who see this understand that you are being openly vulnerable without care of your own safety. You are stating how strongly you feel about something, how important it is to you that this gets done.  You are going out on a limb.

That’s what gives passion its power. It takes courage to be passionate, to be enthused, and go after something. Unilaterally declaring your thoughts and feelings. That’s why there aren’t many who do it, and yet it’s one of the indispensable components of being a leader.
